Can We Annoy God?

I’ve kept a journal for years now. I bet a lot of bloggers could say the same thing. We seem to be obsessed with the regular recording of everyday events. Anyways, from time to time I like to read old journals and compare myself to my younger self. A theme I’ve noticed in reading through some thoughts from the last few years is I worry that I annoy God. Seriously. I’ve always had this fear that I take way to too long to figure out His will or make excuses and claims that I don’t know what He wants when I actually do and just don’t want to do it, so He gets all huffy and puffy and taps His foot at me. I didn’t even realize I was personifying God in such a way until a good friend pointed it out to me and how lacking of grace that view of God was. I felt so relieved. He’s not annoyed with me; I’m annoyed with myself while the almighty God is capable of grace upon grace upon grace.

Then on Sunday, I was listening to my wonderful pastor speaking at my wonderful church about our unbelief and how that unbelief prevents us from the full power of God. As he concluded his sermon, he asked us if we thought our unbelief ever exasperated Jesus. In the passage of scripture we had been looking at (Luke 9:37-50) Jesus was clearly frustrated with his disciples, clearly exasperated. So it’s possible. And now my pastor was asking a rhetorical question to which the obvious answer was “yes.” Ugh.

And now I’m back at square one, wondering if I do indeed exasperate Jesus/God or if that is a trait we put on Him because we are so easily exasperated. Though we like to guess God’s feelings and play that game often, I find comfort in doubting our accuracy.

Good question, sweetie. I lived my life way too long believing God as the foot-stomper, always annoyed with me; a God I could never please. Then He began to show me how much He loved me and how much grace He has for me and I began to change. As a believer I please Him more when His love is ever before me. I have more rest, more peace and I think I begin to look more like Him. The enemy’s plan is to get us seeing God as that big bad judge behind the tall desk with scissors in one hand and me hanging from a thread in the other hand. It isn’t a true picture of God and it sure doesn’t motivate me to love Him with my life. As believers, we have an Advocate who has already pleaded our case & won our deliverance, our freedom. Praise God for His mercies that are new every morning.
    I love you

Does God (the Father) have human emotions?
I think we probably do annoy God but it’s a loving annoyance like a parent-child relationship. Even when the kids annoy the crap out of their parents, their parents still love them more than anything.

I don’t understand God as much as I think I do, so I put it on His AMAZING grace!

I think that God get annoyed with our disbelief. When we keep questioning Him on things that he has already revealed. Jesus was annoyed at the disciples’ lack of faith because they’ve seen that Jesus can do anything with their own eyes. They’ve seen Jesus calm a storm, feed thousands with 2 fish and 5 loaves of bread, heal crippled people, and even raise two dead people to life (lazarus and the little girl); the disciples had no right to have a lack of faith after all that they’ve seen. Although Jesus was annoyed, he still showed grace and compassion and worked with them until they finally understood everything and became apostles. Its impossible to annoy God with our prayers because the bible says to “pray without ceasing”. God WANTS us to talk to Him always, but we shouldnt keep questioning if God is graceful if He already revealed in his Word that he is. That show a lack of faith and that offends God.
