Mr. and Mrs. Bishop

Writing that feels strange. My older sister, Jenna, no longer carries the Lucado name, and, in the words of some guy at the reception, I am now “the oldest Lucado daughter.”

My sister married Brett Bishop Jan. 17, 2008 in San Antonio, TX. Everything was beautiful to say the least, but my favorite part (besides the abundance of different types of mashed potatoes at the reception) was watching my sister – the girl I shared a room with for the first 7 or so years of life, the girl that taught me important life lessons like what to do in the case our ceiling fan collapsed on us in the night, the girl that let me run to her house on a regular basis during my freshman year of college crying about life being “hard,” the girl that carried the weight of being oldest, always going first, always being my and Sara’s guinea pig and never, not once I don’t think, complaining about it – walk down the aisle arm-in-arm with our dad to the resounding noise of about 1,000 attendees singing the Doxology.
It was magical.
To say the least.
